Why It Happens

Modern engines are more efficient. They're also harder to keep clean.

Older Engines

Port Injection

Fuel is sprayed into the intake, right onto the valves. That fuel works like a solvent, washing the valves clean every time you drive.

Modern Engines

Direct Injection

Fuel is sprayed straight into the cylinder for more power and better mileage. Nothing washes the intake valves anymore, so oil vapor slowly bakes onto them as hard carbon.

Why tank additives don't fix it. In a direct-injection engine, fuel never touches the intake valves, so cleaners poured into the tank can't reach them.
Not every engine is the same. How fast carbon builds depends on the engine and how it's driven. Some engines use both injection types and stay cleaner.

The Fix

Two services. One goal: let your engine breathe again.

01

Walnut Blasting

Intake Valve & Runner Cleaning

We remove the intake manifold to reach the valves, then blast away the carbon with finely crushed walnut shells. The shells are hard enough to knock carbon loose but soft enough not to harm engine parts. We also clean the intake runners, the passages that carry air to each cylinder. Everything is vacuumed out before the engine goes back together.

Walnut shells? Yes. It's a widely used method because it's effective and gentle on engine parts.

Even Spray, Clean Burn

Fuel Injector Cleaning

Injectors spray fuel as a fine mist. Carbon on the tips turns that mist into an uneven spray, which wastes fuel and can cause misfires. Cleaning them restores an even spray pattern.

Is It Time?

Carbon builds slowly. The signs are easy to miss.

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a look. We'll confirm carbon is the cause before we recommend any work.

Signs to Watch For
  • Rough or shaky idleThe car shudders at stoplights
  • HesitationA stumble or lag when you press the gas
  • Less powerIt doesn't pull the way it used to
  • Misfires or check engine lightOften flagged as a misfire code
  • Worse fuel economyMore trips to the pump for the same driving
  • Rough cold startsRuns poorly for the first few minutes
